Umphrey's McGee

heeman

PRETTY HAPPY.........
Famous
Some have accused me of living under a rock, or something like that.....

Well, I guess here is another reason for that accusation.

Yesterday, I was channel surfing during the Sprint Cup race commercials and on Palladia, there was this 1 hour concert by Umphrey's McGee.................Holy Shit, I said to myself........I like this stuff.....

So little did I know, they have been around for a long time. The concert is on again this Tuesday Night and I will be watching in it's entirety in the HT.

Does anyone else here like them or even know of them???

From Wikipedia:

Umphrey's McGee or UM is an American progressive rock band originally from South Bend, Indiana, whose music is often referred to as "progressive improvisation", or "improg" (per a progressive sampler released by the band in 2009).[1] Although the band is part of the jam band scene, like Phish and the Grateful Dead (with ever-changing setlists, improvisation, two sets per night, open taping policy, etc.), they are much more influenced musically by progressive rock artists such as King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Frank Zappa, and early Genesis, as well as heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden. The band also identifies The Police, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin as primary influences.[2] UM experiments with many genres including funk, jazz, blues, metal, electronic, bluegrass, and folk.

Interesting. Don't feel bad, I haven't heard of them either, but I'm not usually the best counter example to this sort of thing. I'll check them out...

Me neither. Their list of influences has me intrigued, but their "class" (Phish, GD) doesn't. On to EweTube...

Several of Babs' coworkers (who are devout Phish-heads) have been listening to these guys for years. So while we've known of them for a while, that doesn't mean we...um...never mind. Suddenly I just heard my mother say "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". :eusa-whistle:

Wow! Couldn't have said it any better myself!!!!! :scared-eek:

Heeman, if you ever wanna hang with me at work, you will get your fill, I assure you!!!!!!

Also, devout Phish-heads & Dead-heads is an understatement!!!!! Another :scared-eek:

Yes, there is. I remember seeing it on MTV back in the 80's.

Speaking of 80's MTV...

My son is a Phish Head and has been since high school. He graduated in 97. He has eclipsed 100 concerts. Being a P.H. automatically makes him UM follower. Since fatherhood back in November he has refrained, its been close though. Its only a matter of time when he packs up his son and heads out on tour.

So the show is tonight at 9 CST on Palladia.. Sold out crowd at the Tabernacle in Atlanta....

Zing has a couple of me like that from years back. I hope they don't ever surface! If they do, I have retaliation! :teasing-tease:
Happens to the best of us!

But Zing has the cash... :twocents-mytwocents:

The Grace Potter Storytellers is great, and I must of seen most of it before.

The Umphrey McGee show was good. I have always been a fan of Progressive Music especially when it has a heavy metal/hardrock style to it. Jazzy/Funk is always a plus also.

I will continue to learn about these guys and their music!
