I know I'm supposed to be excited about Red Tails :confusion-shrug:

Isn't it basically a rehash of the HBO series on the Tuskegge Airmen?

That being noted I haven no problem with more attention being focused on the contributions of minority service personnel, especially during the time when there was sanctioned discrimination.

Those bomber crews didnt care what color there fighter escorts were im sure, the way they were getting shot up they were thankful for the protection.

Don't tell me George finally did something new? I thought he'd live out his days milking the Star Wars saga.

That's what I'm wondering. The impression I get from the trailer, is it's going to be more an entertaining movie than a historical biopic. If that's the case, I'll just rent the DVDs (or Blurays) of the HBO series.

I dunno its hard to beat airplane dogfights on the bigscreen I think this one Ill be at the theater for.

The accomplishments of those pilots cannot be overstated and they are heroes.

But the biggest "hero" is the plane they were flying, the P-51 Mustang. It was the Mustang that gave them the range to protect the bombers for a full run.

That being said a plane is just a machine without a skilled pilot in the cockpit.

And on a second viewing of the trailer I will see it in the theater.

On Friday night H2 aired a program "Double Victory" with original footage and interviews with Tuskegee airmen. I recorded it but have not had a chance to watch yet.

It will be rebroadcast on Monday Jan 16 at 10 AM and 4 PM EST on H2 if anyone is interested.

H2? What is that...History Channel International?

Yeah they rebranded themselves a couple months ago. Now just called H2.

They actually show programs about history unlike that "reality" crap they show on the original.

This movie looks terrible. People didn't act like modern day NFL huddles act in that era.

I think you saw the same trailer I first saw. I've noticed some of them are different. The one I saw had a similar style of music in the background like you would hear from the Fast & Furious movies.

BTW...I watched the documentary on H2 earlier today. A must see. It's sad and pathetic that German POWs had more freedom than those guys did.

A while back a local paper had a article on German POW camps in Liberty, Mo. town about 10 miles NE of Kansas City. They talked how the Germans had the trust and were allowed to work the farms in the area some farmers trusted them to go to town pick up seed feeds and fertilizer. When the Germans were repatriated many chose to stay and settle in Liberty as it reminded them of home. Well getting to my point they interviewed some these old former pow and they commented how they had more rights as a POW than the black's that worked the railroads in town. They said they could go into any store and be made to feel just like anyone else but that you never would see the black fellows in those same places. Just so unbelievable this happened really not that long ago.

FWIW, Jon Stewart interviewed George Lucas about a week ago on The Daily Show. GL said he spent a lot of time interviewing the remaining Tuskegee airmen, and when they saw the final print, according to him, a lot of them came up to him with tears in their eyes, "You got it right"; including a few of the bomber pilots.
Now, I know how popular GL is on this forum, and most of you will yell that he's just trying to line his own pockets in that interview. Shoot, like Srvy said above, I just like watching WWII aircraft battles and this looked like a fun "popcorn" movie that I'd enjoy in the theater... :|

I am not sure of this one it looks too computerized to me. At least from the previews I have seen. While it works for some just not sure about this one. Unless I here some stellar reviews I an going to wait for the blu ray.

I grew up watching there old movies with my dad so I really hope it's good and worth watching just so, I can capture a few of those memories he even for a minute.

Just came back seeing Red Tails at local cineplex, Botch had it right. Kind of a popcorn movie, I went to see the dogfights on the big screen. Kind of like Star Wars just substitute Tie Fighters for WWII to planes, those early German jet fighters were pretty cool.

I heard GL financed about 60-70% himself and Oprah and Tyler Perry the rest, because the studios would not support an almost all black cast movie. They said they would have idea how to market it overseas, where 60% of their profits come from. So maybe things are not too different from the past?
