A Capella singing?

Anybody here like a capella singing? I've gone to barbershop quartet invitational concerts wife my wife and have been amazed at an individual's command of their octave(s). This Pentaponix group is current, takes advantage of excellent video production, and has the benefit of a fifth, which makes them extraordinary (in my mind). I wish them well.

Here's two to sample if you haven't seen them already:

I'm definitely a huge fan of a capella groups. Not bad, not bad... for pop music. :eusa-whistle:

They're a talented bunch. The second video is particularly cool, and the makeup on the girl is outstanding. You'd think in the first one they could lip sync with their own music a little better. But they do have a nice sound.

Not sure there's anything magical about the number 5... How about 6?

Or 12?

I was unable to find an actual video of it, but this song - Raggle Taggle Gypsies - off of the King's Singers album Watching the White Wheat is some of the most amazing singing in this genre that I have heard, IMHO. I highly recommend this album.

I also just posted in the AIX thread about a really good surround mix of an a capella group (12 people).

Sorry one more... you've got me poking around on youtube which is fun!

Plus you just can't beat the mustache on the fellow on the far right.

I posted a video of Take 6 in, I believe, the Dr. AIX thread, another fantastic a cappela group (their bass often mimics drums, too). Will have to pick up the Pentatonix, wasn't familiar with them before; thanks!

Everyone in my last band used in-ear monitors, all four sang, and we had a sound man who knew what he was doing. When we did Queen's "Fat-Bottomed Girls", the sound man would temporarily mute the PA, I'd play the four notes that we all sang on my piano (so the band could hear the notes but the audience couldn't), in time, we'd all count to four, and blast out with perfect (well, sorta) pitch, four part harmony, "AAAAARE you gonna take me home tonight?" The crowd loved it, but any musicians in the audience were floored; how did they do that with no strummed chord to start??? Great fun!

Awesome talent here!!!! :handgestures-thumbup: On different levels! :text-goodpost: to all!!! I luv the acapella sound! I heard it a lot growing up!

Yes, Pauly, that mustache is quite interesting & unique!!!!

IMHO, The Nylons were, are, and will always be, the greatest pop A Cappella group ever.

I consider the lineup of Marc Connors, Paul Cooper, Claude Morrison, and Arnold Robinson to be their strongest. Unfortunately Connors and Robinson have passed away. Morrison is the only still-active member.

I've seen them in concert at the NAC (Ottawa) and it was absolutely amazing. I'll always remember one segment, between songs, when Connors mentioned Immaculata High School (all girls Catholic school) and a screech of girls voices rang out from the crowd. Robinson, ever the jester, immediately jumped forward and said "what's that?" in his deep deep voice. Brought the house down.

Here's two of my favourites - with that lineup.

Well, they had a good run.

:text-bump:

Christmas music doesn't suck when it hasn't been played to death by everyone every year for your entire life. And since this is the first time I've heard this, I like it! Nice to see an unknown video by these guys, too, even if it does go slightly off-key here and there. :eusa-clap:

If you put an infinite number of monkeys in a room, got them sniffing an infinite amount of "incense," and gave them an infinite amount of time, would they eventually sing a Xmas carol in something other than English?

Apparently so.

Great fun!
