Quick question about using Spotify Connect with Marantz AVR

After years of playing Spotify on my Marantz SR6009 by running a cumbersome 20ft line out cable from my phone & laptop into an Aux jack, I recently (accidentally) discovered Spotify Connect. It's awesome and life changing -- a seriously great function! Anyway, my question is about streaming...

    Marantz SR6009 DAC?

That is so excellent, thanks Flint. It's good for me to hear your perspective. I can't say I haven't fallen prey to some degree of BS over the years, but my budget is always relatively limited and that forces me to use good sense most of the time. If I had tons more expendable cash I can't...

    Marantz SR6009 DAC?

Thanks, fellas. (sorry, I forgot to respond earlier) Around the web I've read many people saying exactly what Flint's said, and I trust it in general. I have assumed there's a great deal of placebo at work in the area of $1000+ DAC's. But what about something like a phone or laptop? I am quite...

    Marantz SR6009 DAC?

I'd like to know which DAC I have in this receiver, but can't find it anywhere. It's really odd. Should I take from this that it's not an aspect of the unit that they're particularly proud of? Anyway, does anyone know?

Use sub level as a substitute for receiver's Bass tone control?

Ah, ok. Did not realize that. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks.

Use sub level as a substitute for receiver's Bass tone control?

That's exactly the sort of info I was looking for. I had a suspicion that the slopes would be a major difference. Good to know- thanks! I too set my crossover at 100 Hz despite having mains that are rather bass capable (PSB Synchrony One B). Allowing my mains to focus all their energy on their...

Marantz AVR trouble: one channel not working right

My brother-in-law has a modern Marantz AVR (SR6008 I believe) and after some troubleshooting we discovered that one channel is super low volume (front-left). Not intermittent like a dodgy connection or anything -- it's consistently very low volume. Is there anything we can look at relatively...

Use sub level as a substitute for receiver's Bass tone control?

I recently got a Marantz AVR (my first proper AVR). I love the Marantz sound, and also really love being able to use bass management to seamlessly integrate my sub into the system (it's just 2.1, but whatever). The one thing I miss from my old stereo receiver is the ability to easily tweak the...

Thinking of getting a new receiver

Add me to the A4L recommendations. I got a $1K Marantz AVR for under $500. The 1 year warranty (or whatever it is) should cover any major issues, I'd imagine. So it's relatively low risk I think. Kind of a no-brainer if you ask me.

Is there a 12" small cab $500 sub (new or used) worth buying?

A few responses to all your amazing input: First, yes i know that the PSB is not too powerful. I kinda meant that as a joke. The problem is that -- and I need to verify this sometime by measurement -- the PSB is the first sub I've used that could go so ably below ~40 Hz, such that it revealed a...

Is there a 12" small cab $500 sub (new or used) worth buying?

Well I have been using the PSB Subseries 450 for about a month and it's been a truly an eye opening experience. I now see what a fully capable sub can do, wowee! But bad news: it's too good / too much. I don't think I can use it. Having a sub that can go down another 15 Hz or so has revealed...

Is there a 12" small cab $500 sub (new or used) worth buying?

Yeah, well something as big as a sub is equal parts furniture and machine, especially in a rowhouse in a dense city. So design is quite important to me. But Lady Luck has stepped in! After nearly a year of intermittent checking of ebay and Audiogon for rare deals, late last night I found a...

Is there a 12" small cab $500 sub (new or used) worth buying?

Thanks, Flint. Yes indeed the SB-2000 is one I have my eye on. Been reading some impressions. I hate that front grill though. [sigh] Also been reading about the PSB SubSeries 450, which is still quite small but a good deal more money. [sigh] A more attractive design though, imo.

Is there a 12" small cab $500 sub (new or used) worth buying?

I missed it, oh well. What was it? So looks like the answer to my thread title is a resounding "NO". Not surprised. Ok, fine. So let's bump it up to $1000 and wait til I can afford it. No problem. Still keeping it at about 16" on all sides, what do ya have? A quick search online of best $1k...

Starting to think about stowing my wall of CD's . . .

Ha, that's EXACTLY what I've been doing for a few years now. I use a 25 footer and it easily reaches all the way to my seat at the dining room table! Works rather well, I must say. But I was hoping to "cut the cord" as a part of this effort. Plus keeping the FiiO charged is a mild hassle I'd...

Starting to think about stowing my wall of CD's . . .

Not familiar with these solutions. So you're talking simply an app that runs on the NAS, is that right? That seems quite simple and elegant. This approach utilizes the DAC in my receiver right? So NAS drives typically have HDMI or other digital out then? And does it require the TV to be on? That...

Starting to think about stowing my wall of CD's . . .

Been a few years now since I started this thread, and my wife & I are beyond sick of the wall of CD's. We're ready for the local digital music storage/streaming solution. "Local" means in the living room, in a media cabinet with all the other AV equipment. So what's the state of the art? What...

Is there a 12" small cab $500 sub (new or used) worth buying?

I feel like i looked at those already and vaguely remember that the better performers were pretty massive. Same with SVS and HSU. But that was a little while ago - I'll look again. From the reading I've done so far, the balance of parameters seems to be quite true: performance, size and price...

Is there a 12" small cab $500 sub (new or used) worth buying?

Yeah, I think that's where I am. I'll wait until my size limit is the only remaining consideration and then revisit. So no one has given the SubSeries 450 a try then? If not what are some of the best approx 16-18" subs you're aware of?
