My dad wants a new TV. Probably 55" and neighborhood of $1k. I have no idea what's currently out there. Thoughts?

i don’t think a 55” would cost anywhere near $1k unless it has ALL the bells and whistles….last few I purchased were at Costco.

What are the priorities …
4K ?
120Hz ?
HDR ?
Built in apps ?

Not really sure. As far as I know, the main thing he watches is sports (football mostly), and it's set up in a room/space with absolutely zero light control so super-high quality color/black isn't an issue. Can you even buy a TV anymore that's not 4K? I doubt he has any 4K sources either, though I'm not totally sure.

So looking at prices on Costco's site just for comparison, yeah ok 55" 4K starts around $500 for LED; QLED around $750+. Is the difference between LED and QLED worth the extra $$? I guess that's kind of a subjective question... I have no sense of how much they actually differ in real life.

QLED's are brighter and since he has no light control, this is the better choice over OLED. OLED has better off axis viewing and deeper blacks.
