Hello, I'm looking to purchase a set of headphones for my nephew. The primary use for these headphones will be for music listening (he's a big Hendrix fan) from an I-Pod or computer. Full Sized headphones are preferred. I've seen on-line recommendation for Sony MDR-7506, Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, M-Audio Q40. Headphone.com seems to really like the Superlux HD668B for $49.95. Your thoughts and recommendations would be grealy appreciated. :music-listening:
 
I bought a set of AKG 240s from a friend super cheap. They're used, but great sound for the money.
 
Personally, I'd go with the Sony MDR-7605. They are incredibly revealing and realistic sounding while offering more excitement from a strong "punch" and "sizzle" the others don't really offer. They are extremely efficient and will perform well with nearly any source component - so no need to whine about needing a separate headphone amp. And they fold up easily for packing in a backpack or shoulder bag. I still see them in most studios, so they get the respect they deserve.

I'm thinking serioulsy about buying a pair for myself. I seldom use headphones, so these would be great for me.

Considering cost/performance, I would seriously look at IEMs in that price range.

I agree - I believe IEMs are the best value and provide the most enjoyable experience in most situations. But the first post quite clearly stated that full-size cans were preferred.

The headphones are not for me Rope. My Nephew was visiting down from New York, and he was using a cheap pair of headphones with his I-Pod and Laptop. I couldn't stand seeing him using them, so this is why the purchase.

But it has opened up a can of worms for myself wanting a pair for myself. Was looking at the Denon AH-D1100 Doghart posted. Also you guys have me interested in a pair of IEM's. :angry-cussingblack:
