I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
I have what I believe is a ground loop issue caused by the cable box which is connected to the tv via hdmi. My current interface is limited to a Behringer U-Control connected to my laptop via USB. If I disconnect the hdmi cable between the cable box and tv the hum disappears with the computer...
I have been dealing with serious medical issues over the last few weeks, and haven't been able to do much listening. I will post my impressions as soon as get a chance to do some critical listening.
Thanks for all the input. I pulled the trigger on a pair of Dynaudio BM6AII's. I will post my impressions as soon as I think my ears have adjusted.
I wish I could do a direct comparison of the Dyn's vs. the Mackies unfortunately it's not possible.
I live in a small studio apt of approx 400sq ft. My listening position is about 7ft from the speakers. They will be used primarily for 2 ch music listening with the hope of adding surround sound if/when I can afford it.
I do have a SVS PC+ sub which I cannot use because the neighbors don't like...
I am preparing to pull the trigger on a pair of Dyn BM6 II's. My only concern is that they have only balanced xlr inputs. I have ordered a pair of xlr to rca adapters from Parts Express.
Is there any risk of hum or other issues I should be concerned about? My preamp has only unbalanced rca...
There are several versions of the BM5 available. Any opinions on which particular version? This is the retailer I am considering as they are located near me.

Another factor to consider is bass response. I live in a small studio apt. and cannot have loud deep bass. I am primarily concerned with the midrange and treble comparison between the Dyn's and Mackies. I have a SVS sub that I can't use because the neighbors don't like it.
There are multiple versions of the BM5. For example I can get a pair of the BM5A MKII's for approx $700 new on closeout. Would that be a upgrade over the Mackie 824's? Or these:

I live in a small studio apt. of approx 400 sq. ft. How close must a sub woofer be placed to the actual listening position to overcome the room based effects. My sub is a SVS 20-39 PB+.
All advice is welcome.
What's your nomination for your best of the worst movie?
I define best of the worst by the idea that you know it's a really bad movie, but like it enough to own a copy anyway.
Here's mine:

All music files are in Apple lossless. As for the quality of the dac I am limited to the ipod's internal dac. I can't afford a device that pulls a digital signal from an ipod, and even if I could I don't currently own a digital pre-amp or receiver, so I would need an external dac as well.
I currently connect my iPod directly to a set of AKG 701's.
Would there be any advantage in sound quality in adding a quality external headphone amp, given that the iPod to headphone direct connection generally supplies adequate volume.
I have had their USP-1 pre-amp and UPA-2 power amp for approx. seven months now with no issues. I purchased them during their last holiday sale. I use them to drive a pair of Legacy Classics and am quite happy with them. Total cost was $700 with free shipping.
