We subscribe to YouTube Premium, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Paramount. Just that gets us back into cable TV territory. I would happily drop Paramount if my wife didn't watch it. Honestly, I could probably drop down to YouTube Premium and call it a day. I own at least 80 entire TV series, plus a...

Everyone wants to nickle and dime you. Something went goofy with a recent airline reservation. I had paid extra for the ability to reschedule, so I went in to fix it. Sure, you can reschedule. No fees at all. Unfortunately, your new itinerary is now $800 more than the original, even though all...

Anika is not Neil Peart, but she is at least as good a player. Don't get me wrong, he was a fantastic drummer, but the thing that made him a legendary drummer was his composition more than his playing alone. She sounded like Neil where she needed to and added a little of her own twist when they...

I went to see Rush in Boston last Saturday and it was a fantastic show. Geddy's voice was in great shape, Anika Nilles is a great fit, and the band sounds as good as ever. I am so glad I got to see them at least one last time.

I still haven't had a chance to dial in the sub with proper measuring equipment, but I've done a bit of fiddling by ear and have it sounding reasonably good for now. I still have zero regrets. This was a very noticeable upgrade for very reasonable money. I've spent way more time listening to...

I'm going to do a build based on one of Franklin's designs, but it will likely be a couple years before I have a few grand to throw at speaker parts.

Here is the update. That Douk switch was just way too noisy for this application, so I went with a purely mechanical passive switch that was dead silent. I now have the lowest noise floor I've ever had. I upgraded the cartridge on the turntable to an Audio Technica AT-VM95ML and that made an...

The 180gm half-speed cut vinyl in these sets is amazing.

The stylus on the turntable was shot, so I got a new cartridge. Audio Technica AT-VM95ML. Huge upgrade. Very pleased.

A couple years ago, I bought my wife a turntable. She'd been talking about all the records she grew up listening to and thought it would be nice to be able to play them. Thinking that was the scope of it, I bought an inexpensive turntable for $129 with the plan to rip her records to digital...

Fingers crossed. From everything I've read and from the clips I've seen on YouTube, the show looks amazing. My seats are nothing special (and still $240/ea.), but this is one show I don't want to miss. It is likely the last chance I'll have to see my favorite band again, even if it is without Neil.

I am going to see Rush in Boston this September and can barely contain my anticipation. That makes this a very dangerous time to discover the 40th Anniversary boxed sets they've been putting out for each album. The R50 Super Deluxe Edition boxed set was the gateway drug, followed by Moving...

This model does not have that issue.

New job starts Monday. New receiver will arrive sometime between the 20st and 28th. I'm not jazzed about having to drop $1100 coming straight out of being unemployed for 4 months, but I will admit that new toys like this are ALWAYS fun.

Mid-way through reconfiguring my new setup, my 11 year-old Marantz SR-6010 became unresponsive to most commands. Many hours of AI-assisted troubleshooting and online research led me to one awful conclusion. The EPROMM was corrupted or otherwise malfunctioning in an irreparable way. My first...

I have YouTube Premium, so no ads for me. I usually watch his monologues and sometimes the panel discussions. I really like Maher and think he is a very important voice for decency, rationality, and respect. I've watched him for many years, long before it became fashionable for conservatives to...

I bought this hardware a year ago when tariffs were threatening to drive prices up permanently. I knew I wanted to build new speakers based on one of Flint's active 3-way designs, so I grabbed it. Plans for those speakers got delayed when my shed went over budget and took way more time than I...

My trusty of Marantz MM-9000 power amplifier spent the last few years dying one channel at a time and I've been running all my speakers off my receiver for close to a year. I bought a bunch of Fosi V3 power amps almost a year ago for a future active speaker project that is looking more future...

I love Bill Maher, but I only get the clips that are generally available on YouTube. I'm trying to keep the number of subscriptions down.

Note that I did this with a relatively inexpensive 8" Boston Acoustics subwoofer with a bad amplifier that I had originally planned to toss. In other words, I had nothing to lose by trying. I removed the amp and used the plate as a template for cutting a new plate from some MDF with a rabbit to...
