    Subwoofer repair… Ouch!

Note that I did this with a relatively inexpensive 8" Boston Acoustics subwoofer with a bad amplifier that I had originally planned to toss. In other words, I had nothing to lose by trying. I removed the amp and used the plate as a template for cutting a new plate from some MDF with a rabbit to...

    Android TV with ZERO Ads

I've never used one, because I'm not an Apple guy and because I have about 400 movies in my streaming library I cannot watch on that platform. I'm a Google guy across the board right now. My entire house runs on Nest, Android, Android TV, and Google Assistant. My wife is the only Apple user...

    Android TV with ZERO Ads

If you do not have an AndroidTV streaming box, you can pick up this one at Amazon for $35. From what I saw on YouTube, it is pretty snappy with this launcher on it.

    Android TV with ZERO Ads

Go to the Play Store on the Android TV device and install Projectivy. Don't worry about configuring it. You can make it pretty later. Go to Settings (Android settings) -> Device Preferences -> About Click "Build" 7 times. This will open up Developer Mode. Go to Developer Options, enable "Network...

    Android TV with ZERO Ads

I've been getting more and more annoyed by the fact that every streaming device out there shoves a constant stream of advertising at you. Whether it is gigantic banner adds or a raft of suggested programming on services you don't subscribe to, it clutters the screen, demands your attention, and...

More cowbell! Have you considered a JTR Orbit Shifter Pro?

The old is becoming new again!

It's funny. I spend way more time with the little 3.2 system in my family room than I do with my big system in the living room when it comes to just watching TV or casually listening to music and it has a really goofy setup. The speakers and subs are WiSA, so they have to run off a WiSA...

    New Onkyo TX RZ50

Sucks have been in short supply around here for a long time and then you come along with a double-suck one after another. We need more sucking around here.

Looking for some general comments from experience with in-ceiling speakers

Those look nice and should move enough air to give you at least a little bit of bass. There is no reason to go super nuts with ceiling or in-wall speakers, as they are so limited by where they are and how they work (wall resonance and such). Those look like they are somewhere in the sweet spot.

Looking for some general comments from experience with in-ceiling speakers

I'd put them in the kitchen so you don't have to blast the music in the family room to hear it.

Poker Table!...not really audio related...but it was a fun DIY project that I'm proud of

Material costs are completely out of control. I've been paying $8.88 for 2x6x8 fir. Even sheathing-grade plywood has been running $40-50/sheet. Cabinet grade maple and such are running $80-100. Baltic Birch is over $100 if you can even find it. Prices almost doubled for basic dimensional lumber...

I never realized until I got into this stuff how often it is cheaper to buy than build.

That was a great idea and I'm sure it saved you a ton of time and a bit of money.

I have been listening to a LOT of Steely Dan recently.

The old is becoming new again!

I'm moving away from AVRs for anything but my home theater in favor of some of the really nice two-channel gear from upstarts like Fosi Audio. I am actually a bit peeved with my AVR at the moment, because my pre-outs died off one at a time until I had to plug all my speakers directly into the...
