I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
I agree with everything you mentioned @Haywood. In terms of Media Servers, my main focus is on CD music for my Squeezebox. Even just that takes a lot of time and organizing.
I'm not that big of a movie person, and have just a few Blu-Rays, but I was kind of disappointed that Blu-Ray playback...
Hey guys, sorry if this thread isn't in the right spot, as I wasn't sure what the best area was for this lol.
I was just wondering if you all had any suggestions for keeping dust off speaker drivers (particularly the bottom edge of woofer surrounds), as well as away from the inside audio...
I'm sure a lot of people (including myself) have asked, with the knowledge some of yall on this forum have, have yall ever thought about selling your own speaker designs/builds? :)
But as some have already chimed in, the chance a small/startup company surviving is extremely slim. But maybe...
Thanks everyone for the kind words (since when is the phrase "you suck" considered kind words haha :p) @Razz - the Fry meme is great by the way!
Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been really busy.
I'm still enjoying the speakers very much, I love how well controlled they sound. I had some...
Glad the CMX-2 worked for you @Razz! I was going to reply in my thread to ask whether it worked for you.
Everything you described in your original post is spot on, including the differences compared to the CMX-6, very informative post  For the brief amount of time I had mine, I too...
@JeffMackwood - Nice, I've always kinda wanted an amp with power meters :p I didn't even know Hitachi had made power amps, that's cool
@Flint and @rammisframmis - thanks as usual for the guidance! I did a rough calibration for now since I still need to finish organizing and setting everything...
Hey so I went with the A23 amp. The local dealer helped me unbox and test it while at his store to make sure there weren't any immediate issues :)
When I brought it home, it does have a small buzz / hum, but it's only noticeable within a few inches really. Standing about 1-2 feet away, and...
Echoing what Jeff said, thanks @rammisframmis and @Flint as usual for all the interesting technical insight so far!
I've gotten the return process started with Monoprice. When placing my order there, they had some issues, but at least they seem to be handling my return request well so far.
I...
I think two of the serious contenders are the Parasound Halo A23 and New Classic 2250. Both are priced at $1000 right now.
I know wattage isn't a great indicator, but I'm typing on my phone so I won't put all the specs :P
Parasound.com/a23.php
125 watts x 2 into 8.ohms
225 watts x 2 into 4...
Unfortunately I don't have much else on hand to compare the Monolith with. The only other amp-type devices I have are a 10 yr old entry-level Denon AVR and an old random Sony shelf system, neither of which make any sound unless I literally press my ear up onto their cases, at which point I can...
Gotcha, yea hopefully it was apparent I was mostly joking about asking about using the 2100 with a Halo amp. :p
Usually I don't listen to music very loud, but I do like to crank it occasionally, and do want a quality amp since I took the leap of going with the C1's, and they have a relatively...
Thanks for the input guys -
@Botch - I'm still debating which way to go, normally I'd be wanting to try a replacement unit, but with the amp weighing 60 lbs, it's a bit clumsy shipping it back and forth, especially if the replacement unit exhibits the same symptom. I'll call Monoprice tomorrow...
So unfortunately it doesn't seem the CMX-2 is resolving my issue :(
I guess the amp has a defect, I'll have to call Monoprice.
I'm not sure whether I should try an exchange, as I'm a bit worried a replacement unit might have the same issue. I'll also have to see what return / replacement...
A couple days ago I powered up the amp in a different room and at different times, and I felt the hum was quieter though it can be hard to tell sometimes. I feel the hum is due to DC offset, but I'm still not completely sure.
I went ahead and ordered the CMX-2 a couple days ago, and it...
Thanks for the insight @rammisframmis -
I am sure that the hum is not coming from the speakers, as I heard it the first time I powered on the amp without anything connected (just to make sure it wasn't DOA or anything).
As for the hum coming and going, I feel maybe it's gotten a bit quieter...
Thanks @Flint for the quick response -
I noticed Audioholic's review (which has great measurements of the amp and was influential in my decision to purchase the amp) mentioned how humming can occur due to DC offset in your home's electrical system. He said an AC line restoration device (he...
Hey everyone, so a quick update. Normally I'd elaborate on my new gear, but I do have question.
Chris (aka @Batman) reached out to his contacts and sourced me a Parasound 2100 preamp (thanks again Chris!). I also ordered the Monolith 2 from Monoprice.
Both arrived today, and I've been...
