I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
They are wrong about the designation, but correct about way it usually gets used. I know that my family room system with three speakers and two subs is 3.1 with two subs, but when talking with people will often use 3.2 as shorthand (especially with people who don't know the difference).
Class D has come a very long way. Every speaker in my house runs off Class D amps, except for the ones in my main system. I have zero complaints about the sound.
I have a problem.
Well, my wife says I have a problem.
That problem is a combination of gadgetitis and electronics hoarding. Let me explain.
Remember that time Flint modded a pair of Insignia bookshelf speakers? I have them in my office with an old Energy subwoofer I bought in 1997 and a...
I didn't go with OLED when I bought my last set, because I wanted something bigger than 65 inches and the 77 inch OLED was something like $20k. I am still quite happy with my Sony XBR, which still cost a bloody fortune, because it was the first generation of 4K HDR and I had to pay the early...
One minor complaint about this amp. The noise floor is high enough that I turn it off when I'm not using it. That is one place where the $140 price shows. Another is that the subwoofer output has a fixed 200hz crossover point and no gain control. The speakers only run full-range. It is...
I wanted to put a music system in my office that was not connected to my computer. The main reason is that my Mackie CR3s are connected to my KVM switch and move back and forth between my PC and the company laptop. I don't want to stream music over the corporate network and re-wiring everything...
Edifier makes marginally better speakers than the ones I bought that are still under $200. The main issue you will run into with all of them is driver size. If you have a big room, you will likely not want 4" drivers. Fluance makes some nice stuff, but they start at $259 and go up from there.
I wanted to get a pair of speakers for the master bedroom. At first, I was looking at great little speakers from Fluance and Audio Engine in the $300-500 price range. Then I realized something. These speakers will never be used for "serious" listening. They will play background music while we...
