I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
Yeah. I discovered I had a bad line-out for one of my surround channels and had to move my surrounds from my amp to my receiver. I also have one bad channel on my amp. I'm probably going to have to fix the latter. The former isn't that important and can wait until the next system refresh.
I've been listening to Extreme's new album a lot lately and really like it a lot. Lisa and I also went to see them a couple months ago. Great show. Nuno is definitely one of the best rock guitarists out there right now and the solo in this track is insane.
With the advent of lossless and high-resolution audio streaming, I don't bother buying CDs anymore. I picked up a bunch of used discs for cheap on eBay awhile back to fill some holes, but then I started to wonder why. I think I'm done, unless it is someone I can't get on Amazon Music or YouTube...
I've got a cheap little $15 Chinese digital amp that I bought for the garage. It is amazing how decent these things are, considering what they cost.
I also own three amps made by Fosi that I absolutely love. They are definitely more expensive and overkill for Flint's application (I'd have done...
We still pick up the odd disc, but it is usually stuff that isn't available for streaming. I've been buying nearly all of my movies on Vudu for at least a decade. Discs look marginally better, but the convenience factor involved in owning streaming licenses is hard to beat. These days, I mostly...
I've had a BDI media console for many years and can attest to the high build quality. It has been through three moves and some of those movers were NOT kind to it. All it has are a few scratches and one ding that did not even break the veneer. Their stuff is spendy, but worth it.
Those Purifi boards are about $500 each. At that price, I'd be better off just buying an amp. The point of this exercise is to build something that sounds great at an affordable price point. I've read some good things about those LJM designs and the boards are very inexpensive. Granted, the...
Thanks for pointing me in that direction. They make interesting stuff. Unfortunately what I'm looking for is the actual boards and components to build amps inside of my speakers. All good though. There are a ton of Chinese amp boards out there.
I have a ton to learn here. I've been doing some more research and I can get a DSP board for a 3-way build for about $30 from Parts Express instead of going with an all-in-one amp/DSP. That opens up a lot more options. The questions is whether you have any recommendations. I could use Class AB...
There is a new player called Sofa Baton trying to fill the niche vacated by Logitech. I got a basic one for my parents and it is fine. I have not played around with their higher-end options.
I get that. My sister-in-law is building a Class A integrated amplifier from scratch using kits for all the boards and doing all her own soldering and such. Sometimes they come with missing or wrong parts, but that is pretty easy to deal with. She's having a lot of fun with it and just finished...
I agree that you can use an external DSP and do a full active crossover with conventional amplifiers. That is a given. The advantages here are size and cost. I can attain 200Wx4 with DSP and Bluetooth for $172 per speaker. Buying 8 channels of traditional Class A/B amplifiers would cost at least...
I forgot to mention. These little DSP-driven amps are super configurable, because you can bridge any two channels. I bought a 30x4 amp for $64 that I can run as 30x4, 60x2, or 30x2 + 60x1. They can support up to four programmable attenuator knobs that can be assigned to a variety of functions...
I disagree. This is fantastic for folks who want active crossovers, which have real advantages. I am looking at building a pair of new primary listening speakers later this year using two 100x4 DSP amplifiers. That DSP is a powerful tool, because it contains a PEQ as well as a crossover. It...
I've used good old fashioned RG-6 in a pinch and my only real complaint was that it was stiff as hell and hard to work with. I don't use very many analog cables anymore, but most of the ones I do use are from Blue Jeans Cable.
